Annual Meeting & Spring Gala Annual Meeting & Spring Gala

The March 23rd Annual Meeting and Spring Gala gathering at the home of Eileen Dewey in Columbia surpassed all expectation. Everyone arriving commented on the horrible Friday night traffic and dismal rain, but that didn't stop more than 60 people from attending.

Guest speaker, Len Press, LCSW-C, provided a brief, but witty and charming rendition of his thoughts on what has stood the test of time. Len, who was chosen by the Society as the Social Worker of theYear in 1993, also received Honorary Membership in the Society. This honor is conferred upon an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the goals and values of clinical social work. Mr. Press's long career has done just that.

Last year's scholarship winners, Walter Knauff and Darnell Morris-Compton were given hearty applause as we kicked off the 2007 Scholarship Campaign. Tim Donovan, President, remarked that just last year the scholarship effort began by passing the hat at that Annual Meeting. Members' generosity displayed their commitment to this endeavor, and the Board has high hope of exceeding our goal for this year.

Lynne Farbman, Chair of the Mentor Committe spoke about the exciting relationship we have developed with the School of Social Work and acknowledged the very beneficial effects of our Mentor program for the Society's student members. A special thank you was given to Mentors who, over the past year, have volunteered their valuable time and expertise to the program.

Patricia Baker, Immediate Past President, received a special thank you for her many years of service to the Society. Pat's calm, but energetic and focused leadership style had a positive effect on each and every undertaking she selected.

This Annual Meeting was the social event of our year. Eileen's home is a beautiful setting and Eileen is a dynamo hostess. Buffet food first presented a visual feast for our eyes and tasted even better. Lively conversations soon filled the air as colleagues greeted each other. Everyone commented this was the best attendance at an annual meeting.
